The
English Club of Lycee Yamwaya had existed before I came in this school in academic year
1997-1998. That year, the club carried out activities. But the following years, nothing
happened. We have to wait till 2001 to see the revival of the English Club. Students of
Seconde A4 accepted to write articles for a newsletter intitled "Seconde A
Newsletter". They worked in collaboration with another secondary school named Lycee
Yadega. The following years the newsletter was renamed "The English Club
Newsletter" and all the students in both schools interact. This year, 2003-2004, an
English Club has also been created in Lycee Yadega. Both clubs meet on Tuesday afternoons
and carry out their activities, with the help of English teachers.
The aim of English clubs is to offer students extra-curricular opportunities to
practise the language outside the constraints of formal settings - classrooms -. Students
improve their four skills - writing, speaking, reading, listening .
This year, I have had the opportunity to connect my students and some members of the
English Club of Yamwaya to keypals exchange projects in Japan, Korea, USA, Taiwan. The aim
is to share cultural values, discover foreign civilisation and make friends.
